Best Day of the Year

For those of you who don’t know, I love St. Patrick’s Day! “Why?” you may ask. Well, that’s a very valid question. My best response is simply “Why not?”  I don’t really have Irish heritage, I have been to Ireland; but that happened probably BECAUSE I love St. Patrick’s Day.  I really don’t have a reason to love it, but I think any reason to make a day special is good!

Here’s a glimpse of what our St. Patrick’s Day was like this year. We owe everything to Mother who has been taking care of us this week, and making sure that everyday has been fun, especially today.

Mother gave the kids shamrock antennae and bracelets to wear! They got played with more than they actually got worn; but we managed to get a picture with them on! They looked so cute with their St. Patrick’s Day shirts!

Here’s all of us dressed in green!IMG_20160317_093523

Portia’s outfit is thanks to Mariel Boone and Jessica Johnson 4 years ago. They got this dress for Fay. They said they knew it wouldn’t be her size at St. Patrick’s time; but my daughter needed to have the dress! Little did we all know it would be perfect for girl #2! The headband is one that I made for Fay on her first St. Patrick’s Day. Good thing we kept it all!

She’s pretty stinkin’ cute in this picture; but the camera really can’t capture just how precious she is!

Josh is the best ever! He got me the most beautiful St. Patrick’s Day flowers!

The pink daisies are my favorite part!

Mother made us a delicious Irish themed dinner! We had corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes! I don’t know if Irish people eat funeral potatoes; but if they don’t they should start! We also had green pistachio pudding! So yummy!IMG_20160317_164152

Fay really wanted to make a leprechaun trap. We didn’t think to do it last night, so no leprechauns came to our house today. But she still wanted to do it tonight. It’s pretty simple (as simple as you can make it, I’m pretty sure). But it was apparently enough for Fay.  I tried to get her to look at the camera. But she said she wanted to “look straight.”IMG_20160317_182235

See! With all that fun, what reason is there NOT to love St. Patrick’s Day?!

She’s Here!!!!

We are super excited to have welcomed the newest member of our family into the world on Thursday!

Portia Eve Monson was born at 4:25 PM on March 10, 2016! She weighed 6 lbs 4 oz and was 18 inches long. She is beautiful and perfect, and we all love her a million!

Here’s some more photographic evidence!

Some Spring

We have had such lovely weather the past couple weeks! Last week, all of us had some sort of cold or cough, and we felt the need to get out of the house. We spent all last weekend going to parks and on walks outside! It was healing, not just for our bodies, but for our winter-weary souls!

On Friday (Feb 26), we went to a new park in West Jordan. It was really fun, and the kids had a good time there. But I don’t know if they had as much fun at that park as Josh and I did! There was a little scavenger hunt associated with the playground, and Josh and I couldn’t leave until we had found everything!

On Saturday, we found another new park–actually in Sandy, though still west of I-15–that is attached to a fishery!!!!!! It has a decent playground, but the kids love it because they can walk around the water and chase ducks! I am super excited to go fishing there sometime this summer! Here are some pictures at the fishery park.

This is just about the cutest thing in the whole world!

Carter could not be taken away from his playing to pose in any way for a picture.

Carter could not be taken away from his playing to pose in any way for a picture, so this is the best I got. You can still tell how adorable he is, though, and that’s what counts!

Another springy thing is St. Patrick’s Day! I decorated the mantel! (Have I mentioned how much I love my mantel?!)

I made the pillow on the chair. I also made the Valentine pillow, which I think I forgot to mention.

The “Kiss Me” sign was a family effort. Fay helped me to paint the shamrock on, and she really did do it mostly on her own. Josh was the one who fixed the blemishes that were a result of a 3 year old doing the painting. He also did the letters. Basically all I can get credit for is the basic design and painting the background and cutting out the stencils we used.

Today I did my nails for St. Patrick’s Day! They’re not perfect; but they are definitely festive!

I had a hard time getting the camera to actually focus on my nails. So, if your eye is randomly drawn to my middle knuckle, blame the camera, not me. 🙂

We have continued to prepare for our new arrival (due on St. Patrick’s Day). This week, I broke down and bought the item I have been on the fence about for a while. I got the infant insert for our baby carrier. I’m excited about wearing this baby! Hopefully she’ll like it as well. 🙂  Fay got kind of excited about the idea of a baby carrier, so I made her one for her dolls. She wore it for a few minutes and then got bored, and hasn’t wanted much to do with it since. ha ha! I think that when I’m carrying new baby around all the time, she’ll be more interested in it. I hope so, anyway.

She’s such a sweetie! I love my girl!

Hopefully the next blog post I do will be about a new baby, and hopefully it will be sooner than St. Patrick’s Day!
